In our Hydrated Lime Slurry LinkedIn group, a new engineer from a major chemical company shared that when he was assigned to the area where lime was being used, he wondered why they were spending over $500,000 more per year on prepared slurry versus slaking themselves.

He found that when they slaked themselves, they had from 11 to 13 days per year of lost plant production due to a failure in the lime systems. This company assigned that cost to be from $3 to $5million per day.

Since moving to the prepared slurry, they have dropped to one day per year.

The prepared slurry has been credited with a cost improvement for the plant of between $36 and $55 million per year which is a fair trade for $0.5 million.
